CAPAX:  Show Us Your Ordinary
Deadline for Original Work: Sunday March 11, 2007.
Sponsored by Mercy Seat Lutheran Church of Northeast Minneapolis.

Exhibition: April 1-30 and May 18-20, 2007.
Reception: Friday, April 13 2007, 7-9pm.

Finiti capax infiniti? Or, can the finite bear the infinite?  We say yes.  The ordinary does bear the extraordinary.  Show us your ordinary.
Christians confess the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead; not a world-transcending spiritual being, bur rather a God incarnate who inhabits our flesh.  Tragically, the Christian tradition has often lost sight of this world-affirming ethos.  The best of the tradition understands that in this event of incarnation/resurrection, everything that is ordinary becomes extraordinary.
We think that the sacred resides in the most ordinary of events, that everything ordinary is suffused with the extra-ordinary.  For our show, we invite artists to submit pieces that celebrate the ordinary.
·   Open to works in all media, some limitations on large size or installation works (call for details, 612-781-1731.) This exhibition will first appear in the Sanctuary of Mercy Seat Lutheran Church during the month of April, where artwork will enhance and inform the worship experience for two Lutheran congregations. The exhibition in its entirety will subsequently appear as part of the Northeast Minneapolis Art Association’s annual Northeast Art-A-Whirl, May 18 thru 20, a weekend of gallery and studio tours that draws thousands of visitors as well as over 200 exhibitors.
·   Please deliver original works that are framed and/or ready to install (see note above concerning restrictions) on Sunday March 11, between Noon and 5pm. Please label your work with a name, address, telephone number and email, title, media and price. (MERCY SEAT TAKES NO COMMISSION ON SALES.) Works will be chosen for exhibition based on quality and appropriate use of the space (tours of the sanctuary are available ahead of time, call 612-781-1731.) Works not accepted will be available for pick-up prior to March 25th. Notifications will be sent March 15th. Installation takes place the week of March 25th.
