Episode 191, Some Assembly Required
First of all, thanks to everyone who came out to The
Soap Factory last Friday, making this year’s Festival
of Appropriation by far the best attended ever! Work
by Minnesota Artists Eric Carroll, Andy DuCett, Kyle
Fokken, Greg Gossel, John Grider, Brant Kingman,
Suzanne Kosmalski, Cory McNally, Coleman Miller, Mari
Richards, Erik Ritter, Chad Rutter, Ian Sorlie, Scott
Stulen, Michael Thomsen, Sheryl Tuorila and Anastasia
Ward will remain on display at The Soap Factory
throughout the month of November.
Check out the Soap Factory’s website for gallery hours
and information, and mark your calendar’s now for our
collage film presentation and Circuit Bending Workshop
with Beatrix*JAR. Mnartists.org will be presenting
both (FREE) events at the Walker Art Center on
Thursday, November 29th.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Some Assembly
Required (#191) to hear fourteen tracks by dj BC, Nick
Boffo, Escape Mechanism, Freddy Fresh, Lecture On
Nothing, Bobby Martini, McSleazy, Noisy Stylus,
Jeffrey Sconce, Genji Siraisi, Jan Turkenburg, Wax
Audio and The X-ecutioners.
One of this week’s standouts has a common, green
vegetable as its focus… German Turntablist crew Noisy
Stylus presents “Broccoli Wars,” off of the
compilation, “Return of the DJ, Volume 5.” The track
was originally released as a single in 2001. Check out
the Noisy Stylus website for more information about
this quartet of award winning “record players” from
Cologne, Germany.
Another standout track is “Tribute to 365 Days
Project” (Parts 1 and 2), by the Dutch musician Jan
Turkenburg. Check out the SAR Blog to read this week’s
SAR Q&A with Turkenburg. His tracks were created in
response to a challenge by Otis Fodder to create a
composition based on his “365 Days Project.” Find out
more HERE.
Don’t forget to check out this year's Festival of
Appropriation, presented throughout the rest of
November at The Soap Factory. Thanks to mnartists.org
