My Yard Our Message, a project of The UnConvention is calling for entries for artist-designed political yard signs

Yard signs are as ubiquitous and familiar to the American political landscape as baby-kissing and stump speeches, combining catchy images and pithy campaign slogans to increase visibility for vying candidates and their parties' messages. In honor of this election season, My Yard Our Message turns this tradition of political ephemera on its ear with a unique national competition: we're putting the message and the creative design for these political yard signs in the hands of artists and then—in true democratic fashion—you, the people, will vote among the entries to determine a selection of fifty winners, whose designs will be made available to order as full-sized political yard-signs after August 1.

About the My Yard Our Message Contest:
Beginning May 23, artists and designers are invited to submit yard signs to MyYardOurMessage.com around the theme of what it means to actively participate in a democracy. Entry specifications and the submission form are available on MyYardOurMessage.com.

Starting July 1, the public will be invited to vote on the artist-created design submissions. The top 50 vote-getting designs will be announced August 1 and, subsequently, made available to order as a full-sized political yard sign for $20 including shipping. Top designs will also be available for free as PDF files. In addition, the Walker Art Center and mnartists.org will print the winning yard sign creations and place them in neighborhoods throughout the Twin Cities metro area, including those immediately surrounding the site of the Republican National Convention.

MyYardOurMessage.com, a project conceived by Scott Sayre, is produced by the Walker Art Center and mnartists.org in collaboration with The UnConvention.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND SPECIFICATIONS:
Contest Rules for My Yard Our Message
Artists and designers are invited to submit work at MyYardOurMessage.com. Deadline for entries is June 30. Work adhering to the submission guidelines will be open to a public competition beginning July 1. The winning entries (top 50) will be announced August 1 and can be ordered as a full-sized political yard sign for $20 including shipping. Top designs will also be available for free as PDF files.

How to Take Part
•    Create a work around the theme of what it means to actively participate in a democracy.
•    Submit an image of your work to the contest by visiting MyYardOurMessage.com.
•    You may submit up to, but no more than 5 works.

How to Vote for Your Favorite Yard Sign Designs
Anyone can vote for the works submitted: from July 1-27, you simply go to MyYardOurMessage.com and rate the work shown. You can vote as many times as you like but you cannot vote more than once for the same design.

Submission Guidelines
Yard sign designs should be thoughtful, creative, and avoid hateful and defamatory language or images. The project sponsors value non-partisan participation and reserve the right to reject designs that are unlawful, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable to a reasonable person.

Your Privacy
Any personal details of entrants contained on the electronic entry form submitted to My Yard Our Message will be kept for the duration of the project and for the purposes of the project only.
