JOB TITLE Performing Arts Fellowship - Engaging New Audiences for Jazz and Dance
DEPARTMENT Performing Arts
REPORTS TO Senior Program Officer/Senior Curator
CLASSIFICATION Full-time (35 hours/week), exempt
DURATION January, 2010 - June, 2011
RESPONSIBILITIES This fellowship will focus on Walker's Jazz and Dance programs utilizing new technology and interpretative strategies to broaden audiences and deepen engagement through education, social engagement, technological, and promotional campaigns, providing current audiences a better understanding of artists and their projects and supporting new audiences' entry into the forms. The fellow will work with Performing Arts, New Media, Marketing/PR, and Education departments to connect jazz and dance artists to local communities, testing new engagement practices, modifying existing models, evaluating and measuring how varied formats and approaches best draw and engage audiences. The fellow will coordinate online engagement initiatives to build and integrate jazz and dance programming content throughout various online, local, and community resources into other external digital interfaces; work with programmers to provide a broader context through blogs, extended program notes, short video interviews, Walker-created viral videos, etc.; act as Walker advocate, be present and visible at key performance locations throughout the community, helping Walker to build, bridge, and strengthen relationships with jazz/music, local dance, organizations and individuals.
QUALIFICATIONS Arts administration degree or related arts/marketing degree preferred. Successful applicant will have a deep interest in contemporary performing arts with a significant awareness and/or involvement in the local dance and jazz/music communities. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, must possess complete competence and ability to innovate within new technologies and social media, and the capacity to self motivate (work independently) and carry out projects to completion required. Must have strong administrative skills and be detail oriented with excellent writing skills. Flexibility to work weekends and evenings is essential.
SALARY $23,750/year plus $1,500 relocation/travel allowance. Excellent benefits.
