Jim Denomie lives and works in Shafer, MN.
He returned to art school later in life to rekindle his dormant desire to paint. His body of work includes the socio-political renegade mesa series, his more intuitive erotic landscapes, and his psychological paintings featuring the dream rabbit. Last year he challenged himself to complete a painting a day and has discovered small portraiture.
His work has been shown at the Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ; the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum; the Duluth Art Institute; among others. In 2002 he won First Place, 55th Arrowhead Biennial, Duluth, MN.
Current Exhibition of Jim Denomie's work can be seen at Bockley Gallery. The exhibition continues through
November 12th, 2005.
Morstad’s winning proposal was selected for the Innovate mnartists.org $5,000.00 award from dozens of proposals submitted. Radio mnartists will be broadcast on Art Matters, every Friday at 11am on KFAI Fresh Air Community Radio-FM Radio – 90.3 in Minneapolis and 106.7 in St. Paul and posted online every Friday on www.mnartists.org.
Composer Ken Brahmstedt will assist in the production of the series.
“Radio mnartists” features 20 conversations with a varied group of artists from around Minnesota. Says Morstad: “The series is meant to create a larger picture of the diversity of artists working throughout the state and will provide arts enthusiasts with a compelling entry point into the broader Minnesota arts culture.”
The Innovate mnartists.org Award was designed to expand awareness of the mnartists.org website, to broaden the audience, increase participation on the site, use the site’s technology in fresh ways, promote diversity, and connect artists with audience. We thought Morstad's proposed radio interview series met these challenges well: her subjects live all around the state, and include an incredible range of media and styles.
Her complete series will be presented as an audio collection on mnartists.org in January 2006.
