Erik Waterkotte is originally from central Illinois and lives and works in Mankato. He received his BFA from Illinois State University in 2001 and his MFA from the University of Alberta in 2005. He also studied printmaking at the University of Wolverhampton in England for a term in 1999. He has shown in numerous group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, most recently in the 2009 China Sanbao International Printmaking Exhibition. He has held solo and two person exhibitions in Canada and the US. His most recent solo-exhibition, Re-encounters and Reconnaissance, was held at the Printmakers Gallery at Arkansas State University. He is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art at Minnesota State University Mankato where he teaches printmaking and drawing.
