Episode 194, Some Assembly Required

This week’s SAR Q&A is with radio producer, Buddhist meditation instructor and author, Wes “Scoop” Nisker. My copy of his book “Crazy Wisdom” has been pawed through many, many times over the years, and is being held together with long strips of packaging tape at this point. Check out episode #194 HERE, to hear a track off of his “A Decade In Your Ear” release, along with fourteen additional tracks by 89 Skratch Gangstaz, The Bran Flakes, Wayne Butane, DJ Design, Double Dee & Steinski, Joe Frawley, Girl Talk, Go Home Productions, Lenlow, Listen With Sara, People Like Us, Stark Effect, The Tape-beatles and Team 9.

Team 9’s “Screaming pro” is one of this week’s standouts, mashing Michael Jackson with AC/DC and Beck. Team 9 is an Australian mashup project, which refers to its sound as being like “a photocopier on loop.” That’s not exactly true, but I can appreciate where they’re coming from. Apparently Beck liked “Screaming Pro” so much that he actually had it available to download from his website at one point…

Another standout is by 89 Skratch Gangstaz, off of the turntablist compilation, “Return of The DJ, Volume Five.” “Director’s Cut” samples from action adventure movies to create what sounds like a funky faux commercial for yet another as yet unreleased action adventure film. Arnold Schwarzenegger features prominently, of course!

Don’t forget to check out this week’s Q&A with Wes Nisker, and download this week’s episode HERE.

Thanks for listening,
Jon Nelson
