Episode 233, Some Assembly Required

Episode 233 features 16 tracks by artists such as DJ 8-Ball, B'O'K, The Beige Channel, Escape Mechanism, Steve Fisk, Girl Talk, Go Home Productions, I Cut People, Idiom Creak, Madlib, McSleazy, Bob Ostertag, John Oswald, Poj Masta and team9. Check it out HERE.

Part of a short theme inspired by the sounds found in video games, Poj Masta’s “Play My Game” sticks out to my ears this week. I played an awful lot of Super Mario Brothers in junior high school, so I’m sure that’s part of it, but it has as much to do with what’s being done to the source material layered over the top of those familiar rhythms as well. It looks like Poj Masta has gotten himself mixed up in some very big business of late. Rumor has it he’s involved on some level with a new project from the makers of Guitar Hero. DJ Hero is being touted as an “entirely fresh and innovative way to experience music.” Check it out HERE.

Be sure to check out the SAR Blog for last week’s Q&A with Cagey House, along with information about a great new online documentary on the history of sound collage. Jon Leidecker’s “Variations” is both in depth AND entertaining. Part 2 of 6 went online this week. Check it out HERE, and download Episode 233 HERE.

Thanks for listening!
