The event "Radio mnartists: Live at the McGuire" features a small selection of artists from the ongoing Radio mnartists series presented on the site and airing on KFAI's "Art Matters." "Live at the McGuire" is a celebration of Minnesotas vibrant arts culture and the radical democracy that is mnartists.org.
The evening will feature interviews, performances, and lively conversation with Minnesota artists: here's some of what goes on:
The Black-Eyed Snakes, Al Sparhawks punk blues project, will tear up the place. This isnt a show, this is voodoo, remarked one reviewer. The Black-eyed Snakes are on to our dirty little secret. They know we all hungry for a let-out, the real deal, the greasy meal, the knife in the back, so to speak. And theyre going to give it to us, whether we like it or not.
Bedlam Puppet Theatre/ Maren Ward and Sarah Garner make a different kind of voodoo with an excerpt from the their performance Dogs Bollocks! A Neat Little Package.
Bill Cottman, Beverly Cottman, Kenna Camara Sarge are performing together in
AFRICAN american QUEEN for a day, from WAYS of Knowing (by J Otis Powell!). Beverly Cottman uses a chairand a story; Kenna Camara Sarge dances, moving to eliminate barriers of time and distance. Photographer Bill Cottman layers projected images and music by Rene Ford & Jeff Bailey to thicken the narrative thread.
Live Action Set with Spaghetti Western String Co. will do an excerpt from their new show The Percussionist. The collaboration of "the hippest string quartet in town" and the indescribable performing genius of Live Action Set (fresh from the Art Shanties) will delve into dark themes of revenge and explore societys perception of normalcy.
Truthmaze , the spoken-word artist that youve heard so much about, is "One of TC's best hosts, he is sure to set your spirit free" say's Sha Cage of Tru Ruts Endeavors. Truthmaze will perform from his upcoming solo debut CD, Expansion and Contraction (Psoems 1:1).
Destruction/Interpretation/Reclamation, an original performance piece by Jake Keeler with Alex Lemon plays with formal language, like acrobats juggling a set of Havilland china. Nature, violence, transgression, self-awareness, are communicated in real time through poetry, audio, image manipulation and creation, and live action.
Finally, Yuri Arajs , the visionary curator (and artist of note himself)at Outsiders and Others Gallery, will show images of the amazing fellow visionaries that show at his gallery.
A cash bar reception and member registration assistance on the site will be hosted by mnartists.org prior to the event from 78 pm.
A D.J. from KFAI Radio will provide music during the reception.
Radio mnartists: Live at the McGuire is a free event, but tickets are required and are available from 6 pm at the Hennepin Lobby desk the evening of the event.
