Chris Monroe is a Duluth-based cartoonist, whose comic strip “Violet Days” runs every Friday in the Star Tribune as well as in The Transistor in Duluth.

Last year she published an anthology of the strip called “Ultra Violet: 10 years of Violet Days.” Her edgy yet whimsical illustrations about everyday topics were first seen in the Seward Co-op Newsletter and Global Village ads, and later the Funny Pages, The Twin Cities Reader, Pulse and The Ripsaw in Duluth. She has been voted Best Local Cartoonist by City Pages.

Her artwork appears on Pizza Luce menus and CD covers, including “Duluth Does Dylan.” She has also exhibited her oil pastels at the Duluth Art Institute and other galleries. Monroe will produce a new children’s book in late 2006 called “Monkey with a Tool Belt,” from Lerner Publishing.
