J. Otis Powell! is a writer and performance artist whose current projects include a self-described “performance novel” with the working title of Bottomless Sky, a performance art event titled A Being In Motion, and a multi-media DVD titled NEWS AS ABSTRACT TRUTH. Powell! is a curator of BRIDGES, a performance art initiative with Pangea World Theater and a teaching artist and editor for the Archie Givens, Sr. Foundation.
Past recordings include THEOLOGY: Love & Revolution, Words Will Heal The Wound, an anthology produced for National Poetry Month by MNSWA (The Minnesota Spoken Word Association) and This Cat Is Out, in association with The New Day Blues Band.
Powell!’s published works include My Tongue Has No Bone from Porter Publishing and THEOLOGY: Love & Revolution on Traffic Street Press and his articles and poems have appeared in numerous local and regional reviews and publications.
He is the recipient of a McKnight Artist Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Arts, a Loft Creative Nonfiction Award, a Jerome Travel Study Grant and Jerome Mid-Career Artist’s Grant and, as one of the founders of the Write on Radio! literary arts program on KFAI, a Special Merit Award from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.
