I've been working in metal since February 2009. My work employs no solder, rivets, or other adhesives. Instead, I use textile and basketry techniques to hold things together. This allows me more room to play with color, and adds a problem-solving element to working with the medium that I enjoy. All of this is new to me and self-taught, which makes it exciting, challenging, and very rewarding, as no other medium has before. I hope to take it far, stretching my imagination and ability to their limits.
My first series is called Vesica, named for the pointed oval shape. I got the term from cut glass, without realizing the geometric, historical or religious connotations of the shape(more properly called vesica piscis); I simply stumbled on it when I first started playing around with copper strips, trying to weave a bracelet. The fish I make are not meant to represent Christianity, they're just fish.
