My name is Kathy Braud and I am a watercolor and mixed media artist.
I love to use vibrant colors and dramatic value contrasts to explore the boundary between realism and abstraction.
My paintings may be jewel-like with sparkling clear colors. Or they may be the product of a limited palette of colors that mingle to bring delight to the eye with color harmony.
I paint the world as I see it around me, filled with color, design and texture - and I am always striving to make a better painting then the last.
Seeking the strongest values, I direct all the pieces of this puzzle to paint from life experiences and photographic references. A successful painting is one that feels good and stands out with authority.
I even experiment with new applications of watercolor and related mediums because I feel there is so much to learn down whatever path one wants to explore. Lately I’m discovering the joys of Figurative and Portrait artworks.
My goal is to have fun, be enthusiastic, and to share this impression with you, the viewer.
I have been enjoying watercolor painting for the past 14 years.
I love the spontaneity of the medium and the diverse styles it can produce.
And - I love the wonderful colors I can bring forth!
My family roots include an artistic bent from which I’ve continued to foster in my school and post secondary years.
My vocation was a registered nurse - but art projects, crafts, wood working, stained glass window work, singing, cooking and sewing (and raising children) were a part of my artistic being and gave me great pleasure.
Then in the middle years of my life while pursuing the skills for a retirement hobby - I discovered watercolor!
And I’ve been working on improving in that discipline ever since.
I have taken annual professional workshops and grown so much from nationally and regionally known artists.
Such as: Karen Frey, Christopher Schink, Zolton Szobo, Raleigh Kenney, Frank Francese, Rose Edin, Cheng Khee Chee, Edie Ebnet, Doug Lew, Arne Westerman, Andy Evansen, Dan Wiemer, Judy Blain, Donna Zogatta, Tom Fransesconi, and many others.
Demo's from many other great artists coming to my watercolor organizations and art societies have added seasoning to my art training too.
I was a Team-Workshop Watercolor Instructor years ago at the
“Montana Art Experience”. At the Rising Wolf Ranch, East Glacier, MT. 8/28-9/4, 2004.
Oil, Pastel, and Sculpture were also offered as part of the workshop.
Can you imagine the magnificent Rocky Mountain landscapes that were available for us to paint en plaine aire?
I am also a signature member of the Red River Watercolor Society.
And I’m a member of 10 watercolor or art organizations and am Past Vice-President of the local Central Minnesota Watercolorists in St. Cloud.
I teach private classes in my home kitchen studio or teach group watercolor classes locally at the Great River Arts Association in Little Falls (www.greatart.org) .

Having a competitive spirit, I do participate in many art shows – see the schedule below for 2008.
Locally this summer, to my surprise, my entry received “People’s Choice Award” in the St. Cloud State University Summer 2008 Juried Exhibit and “Best of Show” at Bremness Gallery, Glenwood.
There are plentiful opportunities for artisans to share their creative talent with the community.
I have been a successful 5 time recipient of the Five Wings Individual Artist Grants.
One can find me being an active exhibitor of artwork in Central Minnesota and throughout the state.
My “Main Street” chair assisted in raising money for new books at the St. Cloud Public Library Chair Auction this fall.
Sometimes it takes support and encouragement from creative artist friends to risk stepping outside the box. I feel some of my art growth can be credited to doing three major demo experiences - at NWS “Art on a Line”, MN State Fairgrounds, where I was painting under a large demo mirror in front of a sea of artists.
Hopefully, this Little Falls artisan can offer you a selection of abstract, floral, figurative & landscape paintings for your visual enjoyment. Much of what I can now do or have done was possible due to:

Purchase Award March 2007 from the Waage Art Center, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Fergus Falls campus for "Reading Time", a 22" x 30" image, to become part of the college’s permanent collection.

"Park Trails" recieved a Blue Ribbon at the 2007 Artist del Norte Member Show on display in May at Banfill Loche, Fridley, MN
