Experience

Award winning director, producer and writer, Ayesha Adu, has directed a small collection of short films, music videos and commercials. To tell the emotionally challenging story of cord, Ayesha examines the anatomy of a mother and daughter relationship haunted by the ghosts of their past.

In her own words, she describes the thoughts that represent the thematic vertebrae of her work:

“I create provocative, passionately made films that resemble a true reflection of my personal taste and inner wisdom. These films have certain universal themes that interest me at whatever point I happen to be during my own growth and development. The themes can range from identity, sexuality, sexual identity and the psychological patterns that determine the choices we make in our lives. The kind of human behavior I’m most interested in is interpersonal relationships and the types of communication we engage in. My work is an observation of the human condition and the cost at which it reveals our unspoken truths. These "truths" can easily be the things we try to hide from ourselves and from the people around us. We mostly ignore our emotions, pushing them further and further into our souls until there’s no place to go. We’ve run out of places to hide. So when our emotions do surface it’s almost always destructive. The biggest problem with society is emotional dishonesty. It’s a wall that blocks you from creating a space for spiritual freedom. I hope that people would look at my movies and then look at themselves.”

In 2003 Ayesha was featured in the Minneapolis City Pages and Minnesota Women’s Press. She has been living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota since 1991.
