Artist Statement
I am a cross disciplinary visual artist who is interested in observing, exploring, and connecting visual elements of the physical world in order to create objects of wonder and phenomenological installations. My artwork presents an innocent playfulness, yet also maintains an awkward conversation about fetish and commodity. I am interested in elements of science, aspects of desire, the commonplace physical world, and failure derived from experimentation.
I adopt objects and imageries from my surroundings, and take note of oddity found among the ordinary. I am interested in perceived experience as felt through the body and, I am curious about our visceral understandings of beauty, desire, disgust, oddity, and phenomenological entities.
The artwork I create is derived from experimentation and reverie. My studio is filled with ambitious failures and curiously successful experiments. I am interested in how place affects the outcome of these explorations and often seek out nontraditional settings to construct my installations. These explorations are integral to my art making process as I utilize the useful bits and pieces of these discoveries to create curious environments and objects of wonder.
