Bryan Thao Worra is an award-winning Lao American writer. The author of five books, his work appears in over 80 international publications and is taught in college classrooms and textbooks around the world. He was a cultural olympian during the London 2012 Summer Games representing his birthland of Laos.
He is the first Lao American to hold a fellowship in literature from the National Endowment for the Arts and received a 2009 Asian Pacific Leadership Award from the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans for his work in the arts. He has been a cultural contractor with the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Minnesota Historical Society, the Minnesota Humanities Commission and grassroots arts organizations across the country.
He was a chair of the first Lao American Writers Summit in 2010 bringing together Lao writers and artists from across thecountry, many meeting for the first time in over 35 years.
He is the first Lao American professional member of the Horror Writer Association, and the Science Fiction Poetry Association. He is also a member of the Asian Pacific American Librarian Association.
He serves as the Arts and Entertainment Editor for Asian American and is the Creative Works editor for the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement.
