"In the Twin Cities, a thriving experimental movement, led by such bands as Beatrix Jar and Skoal Kodiak, has shown the party scene that weirder is better." - Rebecca Lang, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Bianca Pettis (Beatrix) and Jacob Aaron Roske (JAR) have traveled extensively for the past six years spreading the good word of do-it-yourself electronics and music with hands-on circuit bending workshops and conceptual sound art performances. Their work has been featured at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in Conjunction with the Tara Donovan Exhibit, the Hammer Art Museum in LA, the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the Wexner Arts Center in Columbus Ohio and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Beatrix*JAR have been featured on Make TV (PBS), Think TV (PBS) and are recipients of the 2010 Archibald Bush Fellowship in Media Arts.
"As Beatrix*JAR, Bianca Pettis and Jacob Aaron Roske are known for coaxing unusual sounds from common items such as children's toys and other battery-powered electronic gadgets. The DIY process is known as circuit bending, and the results are audio collages that can range from whimsical and amusing to dark and disturbing. However, in the hands of Pettis and Roske, the experimental music manages to sound warm and inviting, and often comes with block rocking trip-hop
beats." - Active Dayton
