"It's a Nutcracker'reality".November 2002.
"The nineteen century director, Stanislavsky, said "If a rifle hangs on a wall in the first act of a performance it should discharge at the end if the performance." As a student of the Stanislavsky school, I believe there should be no unnecessary items on the stage if they don't advance the story or illuminate a characterization. Everything must work for the audience to grasp the choreographer's intent.
I do not believe that thought or idea is the sole engine of stage movement. Dance speaks on deeper, more personal levels as well. My art is using body movement to express character or to advance a story. The story or relationship between characters is what informs my choreography.
I require that my dance be theatrical and that the physical movement be the primary voice of the production. " from Artistic statement.
