It’s sort of like American Idol auditions for artists: five finalists take the stage to share proposals for a temporary public art installation in Grand Rapids, Michigan. That’s the site of the annual ArtPrize competition, which draws some 400,000 people who view thousands of artworks and vote to bestow upon one of them a $200,000 grand prize.
In Minnesota, the Pitch Night audience helps a panel award $5,000 to an artist to help take his or her proposal to ArtPrize 2013.
2013 Pitch Night recipients Daniel Feinberg and Alexander Hanson received the grant to install Temporary's Pursuit of Permanence on the Gillett Bridge in Grand Rapids for ArtPrize 2013. The installation consisted of an aging SUV parked on the bridge, with a wooden bridge built over it.
