Dyed by Tim Travers and me. Image drawn by Tim, embellished and embroidered by me. I took one of Tim's drawings of a two-headed cat and tried out several new composite band stitches to create the outlines of the cat. Putting flowers in the cats stomach reminds me of creation myths or of every creature's inherent connection to nature.
We have twelve pairs of underwear as part of an ongoing collaboration. Tim was stung by a mosquito at age two and the following illness has made him physical disabled. In his adult life, Tim has worked as an accomplished fiber artist. He uses many different techniques and dyes to tie-dye baby and adult clothes. He then will sometimes screenprint on the clothes or just leave them as they are. One can find his work sold in shops and craft fairs all around town. We met while both working at Interact Center and one day he came across me sewing sequins onto my Venus in Retrograde briefs. He asked if I had ever dyed them, and thus an idea for collaboration was sparked. Tim has taught me his different techniques and together we have dyed the underwear.
