Feminist Golem Installation. Glazed Red Stoneware, Painted Pedestal, Wall Painting. 12 by 10 by 6 inches. This sculpture portrays a golem (a protective figure in Jewish folklore against anti-Semites who started pogroms in the 18th century. A sculptor created a 8 foot tall soldier out of clay and said a magic spell to animate it in the service of Jews who were being attacked. ) This golem is a protector of womyn, Jews, all marginalized communities, and nature. I created this Installation for my Solo Show Strange Friends. The ceramic is a golem protecting the people of the world's cities (this was created right after the Paris Terror attacks) and the Driad in the back is a protector of nature. Driads were tree nymphs in Greek mythology who consorted (in all meanings of that word) with Artemis; the Goddess of nature and the hunt.
