Bridges, did not intend to become a family of works.
Immediately after the 35W bridge collapse, I became acutely aware of the significance of bridges in our culture, specifically the culture of the Twin Cities. I felt the need to paint my heartache.
The initial work was titled Interruption. A structure we had relied upon, and without thought, was now lying in a tumbled wreck in the river. Lives lost. Families severed. Our connection to the north and south interrupted. The immediate heart wrench and pain felt across our community.
The river and bridges have been, and continue to be, a defining place in Minnesota culture.
The series was acquired by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their new building in Brooklyn Center and by a private collector.
