Most of my watercolors are done in the studio from pencil sketches and observations of nature. I begin by doing several small studies. The issues of color, composition, form and lighting are altered and refined. Loose, fluid and direct brushwork is employed. Sometimes one of these studies is the most successful artistic statement of the intent to imply a natural landscape rather than a stylized image. “Marsh Study” is one of those successful studies.
My love and respect for the spirit of nature is my inspiration. Hopefully my watercolor evokes a similar response from the viewer.
