I decided last summer to do a bit of experimenting with collage photography. I'm not exactly sure what made me think to do this, but I do know the reason behind this photo. Around the time I took the photos for this collage, I was fascinated with "google maps." I would look at maps of cities, would look at my house, would look at lakes in northern Wisconsin. One of the things I noticed was how different parts of the map would be photographed at different times--a map of a forest would have green trees, then suddenly there would be a section where the trees would be bare, or a section where the map went from color to monochrome.
I created this collage with the same idea in mind--photos taken at different times from the same perspective, stitched together in a fashion that makes it obvious that parts of the collage were taken at different times. One problem I had in creating this was the size of the file--it ate my last computer but the current computer was able to chew through it. The final image size is huge--around 45" x22," perhaps larger. I'll print it out at some point.
Photos for this collage were taken in September 2007--finally finished processing now in February 2008.
