"Sun is Shining"
Acrylics on 12"x12" canvas.
Portrait of Bob Marley.
This is part of a mini-series ... I am doing all of these paintings in just under 5 hours (ideally under 3). I am trying to complete at least one every day. For those of you who follow my work, you can probably guess that such a short amount of time is not enough for me to bond individually with each piece or to draw out a lot of the meaning ... I mean, even right now I'm pressed for time to write!
However, collectively, I want these to be instruments in telling a grander story.... much like instruments in a song, if you will!
Some background thoughts, not totally (or at all?) related to Bob Marley:
Recently, a lack of time and resources has really hindered my capacity to complete large-scale pieces at the rate I was going early this year. My other pieces have been floating around from place to place in exhibits and miscellaneous public spaces this past few months; in this interim, I think a lot of my unfinished pieces have remained in a halfway state, facing a slight degree of neglect. Since school and work have managed to keep me at a distance from my paintings, I spend a lot of time just gathering inspiration wherever I can.
Actually... lately I've just been ditching obligations and talking with people -- I've spent hours and hours in conversation with everyone. When you talk to enough people, there tends to be this manifestation of parallel thoughts or ideas ... wonderful patterns that repeat ... connections, epiphanies, déjà vu, the divine sparks of humanity ... some interactions don't appear to mean that much in the moment, but then, seconds or months or years later, they take on another form. In a relatively stressful few months, I've found the greatest relief in communication. The buildup of all these conversations has been a better understanding of and a deeper connection to my own creativity. I can't even begin to describe how wonderful this process has been ... ... ......... ..... (perhaps, not all at once ... maybe I have described it, though, in bits and pieces to different individuals... ;) you describe it by living it!)
Bob Marley -esque:
"Sun is shining, the weather is sweeetyeaaa...."
....One of the most eerie, wonderful tunes in the world. Music has been critical in inspiring a lot of my work this past two years and..... I don't want to spoil a few of the surprises.... .. ... .......hmmmmm, I should be quiet for now, haha As I said, this is just one instrument in a grander melody, a thread in some universal tapestry, a passing star ........
I will have this piece as well as several others available at my next live-painting experience, which will be during the upcoming Goody Night on November 29th. I've priced them in a much lower price range than my usual ... everything to gain, nothing to lose by sharing these pieces with others. Art should be accessible....
Expect more really soon!
