#Syzygy depicts a plague doctor carrying a red sphere, a representation of my heart, through a dismal and hellish background. This piece is about my struggle with the loss of my daughter, represented by the butterfly, to disease when she was two years old. The confused orientation of the painting represents the difficulty in finding and holding a "correct" perspective throughout the ordeal.
*This piece is oriented in the correct position. The horizon and signature cue the viewer that it should be one way, while the hanging wire forces the piece to be hung from the least likely perspective. This is to place emphasis on the butterfly and create the feeling that its orientation is the correct one.
