TAKEFIERCEFIRE #1 - #8
LIGHT MY FIRE

The TAKEFIERCEFIRE #1 - #8 series was created with a colored pencil on large boards. They were cut and assembled as a visual/sonic mash-up composition. Disparate samplings were selected and then assembled as one whole. The temporal/spatial continuity and discontinuity flows/interupts at once.
Each works are approximately:
5 - 6" H x 10- 15" W.
The works resonated with
spectrograms of bird songs:
graphs that show you the frequency, or pitch, of a sound, its loudness, and how these change over the course of the sound;
electrocardiograms of the heart:
recordings of the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time
polygraphs of a lie detector test:
recording the person's breathing rate, the person's pulse, the person's blood pressure and the person's perspiration.
The TAKEFIERCEFIRE #1 - #8 series is driven by the same energy of desire, a wild fire, and/or the accelerated breath, the pulse, of rage's fury or the arousal of sexual ecstasy.
CALL + RESPONSE.
I am applying for a grant to collaborate with Lars- Erik Larson, composer/ percussionist/ drummer/ band leader of MANCRUSH.
Lars' work and my work is anchored in the disciplined mastery of our separate fields of exploration and our art soars with improvisation.
Lars will select pieces of my visual work to inspire original sonic compositions for MANCRUSH.
Steve Kenny, flumpet/ bandleader of several bands/ curator of Saturday Night Jazz at the Black Dog, St. Paul, will be a featured artist on one separate track with Lars as drummer.
Lars-Erik Larson and I collaborated for a performance/recitation of my lullaby and poem that was presented in the ONE HUNDRED LULLABIES FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES on 5 December 2015 as part of HUMANLY POSSIBLE: THE EMPATHY EXHIBITION at INSTINCT Art Gallery, Minneapolis.
The outcome of our collaboration, hopefully funded by the MN Artists Initiative Grant will be: a CD, fine art prints of the original pieces that were selected as the visceral launch/blueprint for Lars' sonic scores, and LIVE performances at a venue- preferably, the Dakota Jazz Club, Minneapolis, with MANCRUSH on stage and projections of selected art and an art gallery/museum that will show the art with headphones provided for the sonics.
R/EVOLUTIONARY for the artists/ audiences and venues.
This collaboration serves a higher purpose: individuals from diverse backgrounds, range of age, both genders coming together practicing the art of democracy. A loving respectful skill that sonic ensembles and creative collaborations practice.
Collaboration is a dynamic verb and is a template of freedom and RISING as a unified whole. Creative breakthroughs launch fresh perspectives and offers new horizons. Our world needs this r/evolutionary practice now.
