Technology has allowed us to access an unprecedented quantity of music at our fingertips. With all these songs available to us at any given moment, we have shifted to a new way of listening. A way that allows us to span multiple genres and styles on a whim; we scan through songs at the click of a button; libraries so large that we are unable to listen to every song in our collection.
This piece is the first in a series of process based works which use my personal music collection as source material.
A beat or phrase is cut from every single song on my hard drive. These samples are then randomly sequenced, so as to remove any sort of compositional preference on my part.
