As a part of a larger investigation into the Israeli occupation's effect on my family in Wadi Hunayn, Palestine, three pieces are installed and presented as artifacts. Each artifact relates to or appears in my artist's book You Sat at the Fountain While You Stole the House on the Hill.
Ultimate Archival is a collection of family photos printed onto porcelain. In translating the materials of these family photographs from digital and paper to porcelain, I physically immortalize the fact of my family's existence and ownership of their land. They become the ultimate archival photographs because they are less likely to break down over time.
Trophy is a fez made of stoneware and cotton thread. During my investigation into the theft of my family's houses, I discovered that the fezes worn by my great great grandfather were stolen from his house and worn by Israeli militia men in posed photographs as trophies.
Badge of Honor; We Know What You Did is a recreation of a Haganah tallion. Cast in paper, the Israeli militia members who stole my family's house in Wadi Hunayn would most likely have worn or owned this badge proudly. Yet Palestinians would view the ownership of such a badge as an endorsement of genocide. The actual artifact is for sale on an Israeli war memorabilia website.
