For this art show we were asked to create art pieces that asked the question, "What does womanhood mean to you?".
I immediately thought of how my grandmother always "did it all" and she made it look effortless as a single parent, an educated woman who spoke 7 different languages, worked hard inside and out of the home, and always had a great tale to tell.
When I got older and had children of my own I realized how infact society expects women to bare the weight of it all and chastized anyone who said otherwise. Womanhood meant to me that women are forced to carry a lot of burdens in a patriarchial society. And though women are strong mentally like my grandmother and in many other ways, it does not mean it is any fairer to make women feel like they have to "do it all" in order to be seen as successful in a patriarchial dominated society.
