From a psycological standpoint the idea of attachment has a fascinating quality to it.Through my work as an artist I use materials of a mixture of media to evoke the feeling of inclusion or distance. The feeling of inclusion or distance is further exemplified as I use photographs and observation to communicate new perspectives. My paintings and drawings are generally centered on representing the nature of relationship.
In using unfinished inventories of differing points of view I can elude to concepts which question our understanding of the world through body language and knowledge. Using light playing on simplified shapes, my work invites the viewer to move into a space of speculation. The use of differing perspectives can produce an inclusive feeling for the viewers. I tend to rely on our humanities natural attraction to beauty, truth, and acceptance.
I like to explore connectivity so much because I’ve experienced so many transitions losing a primary caregiver (my mother) at the age of 2 and experiencing my father’s marriage and divorce to two other women and being a product of having gone to 6 different elementary schools. I’m very interested in a healthy balanced connection to self and others enduring loneliness and experiencing connectivity. My work thus far has used recognizable situations: for example, an image of a backlit figure sitting alone or children playing together.
I tend to use imagery that holds high contrast and some ambiguity as it leads to stereotypes of, aloneness or togetherness, which are hidden in plain sight. I have hopes of making visible what is overlooked in the pursuit of calling into question our relationship with others and ourselves.
