My name is Claire Boonstra and I am a graphic designer based in Minneapolis with a love for publication design. My work is based around themes of feminism, sexual assault and other current social issues. I draw a lot of my inspiration from magazines that I read and events happening in the world. A recent piece I worked on was called “The R Kelly Interview” where I took the transcribed interview between CBS Gayle King and rapper Robert Kelly and made a book. Kelly has recently been accused of rape, assault and kidnapping young girls. To articulate the tone of the interview I physically manipulated the paper by crumpling and tearing it depending on the nature in which each line was said, creating a book that is difficult to close and read. Another piece I have made is about the Brett Kavanaugh trials. In this book I used imagery, essays and interviews to inform readers of the effects that sexual assault has on its victims. In the future, I hope to work with a company or magazine that deals with the same themes as my work.
