Clara Mae Emery was born in 1997 in Seattle, WA. As a child she lived in various places within Washington state, Taiwan, and the Midwest. She is currently pursuing a BFA in photography at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her photography addresses surrealism and disconnection. She began using a large format field camera while working on her 2016 project, Haze, a body of work about disconnection and dissociation. Her focus has since broadened to include film and performance. In 2017 she filmed Subconscious Self Silencing, a series of performances on an abusive relationship and made Epiphenomenon, a ten minute surrealist narrative film. Currently, she is working on Automorphisms (working title), a body of work which focuses on connection and reconnection, following Haze.
