Please post announcements and general information that is not covered in The Salon or any of the specific topics in this forum. When we get enough posts to break this out by discipline, we will do that.

Looking for artists/art supporters in the Uptown Area to form a support/network group.
To meet in Uptown or surrounding areas.
To get involved in the art community and the community as a whole.
To address issues and help each other in a respectful and supportive atmosphere.
"United we stand... STRONGER and BETTER SEEN/HEARD" kind of thing...
It does not matter what medium you are working with ... as long as you call yourself an artist(visual/dancer/puppeteer/writer/singer/poets...) You may be a part of this group.

I will come-up with a meeting time and place in The Uptown area if enough people reply to this....

The Minnesota Chapter of The Women's Caucus for Art (WCA)
website www.nationalwca.com, has begun work on an exhibition/event designed to connect and celebrate the cultural diversity of women artists and communities in the Twin Cities. As presently conceived, “A Place at the Table” will be an exhibition of up to 100 culturally-specific seating areas designed and created by individual women artists or groups of artists who are members of the culture (or sub-culture). The seating area may take the form of a chair, an arrangement of cushions, a surface design...any object or design that fits in a 36" x 36" space and expresses the culture represented. Seating spaces would be arranged in a large circle (the "table" is implied). The exhibition would open or close with a celebratory event including food, music and dancing representative of the cultures of participants.

We'll need to further define the project, identify and build relationships with women artists and organizations who might participate, and organize details of the exhibition/event. We hope to make this part of the Summer 2004 MOSAIC celebration.

The NEXT WCA Meeting, Nov. 22nd time 10 to Noon at MCAD, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, 2501 Stevens Av. S.,Mpls, Emeritus room will be focused on this project. Please attend and feel free to invite non-WCA members who might want to participate in the project.

I am a Realtor in the St.Paul Lowertown area, and am also a new partner in the ex nihilo gallery in Lowertown. Opens 12/13/03 7pm. I am providing my services for artists of all kinds in selling homes or helping them buy or rent living/work spaces. I will negotiate any commissions for them to make it easy as possible. If interested please contact me or visit the gallery at Northern Warehouse suite 230. Everyone deserves to own and also have the space to live and work without paying a fortune!

ATYPICAL BOOK GROUP

Hello,

I'm a 36-year-old poet (in Minneapolis) who is new to the message board section of mnartists.org. I'm very interested in forming a book group that likely won't consist of your typical bestsellers (though there can be exceptions) or book-of-the-week picks. Types of reads I'm interested in are the following:

• contemporary poetry collections
• fiction and nonfiction classics
• books by authors from marginalized groups (people of color, women, etc.)
• progressive/left-leaning political nonfiction

I am open to suggestions for titles/genres. I hope to hear from fellow writers/artists interested in same/similar reads. Please contact me at olivegoyl@hotmail.com.

Thanks!

Julie

Hiya Janelle,
"Marvens Gardens" had been mystifying me ever since that was painted up there. Research into Studio7 yeilded nothing. Is it really a place where "artists can bloom"?

I would like to put a REAL garden on the buildings rooftop. A botanical garden under a glass Geodesic dome.
I have wanted to do that for years but I had no idea who painted the invitation "Marvins Gardens".
So, anyway... the idea is out there now. I might do a photo shop prospectus. Your roof has an amazing view as you know. A rooftop gallery garden would really define "Marvins Gardens"
Gotta run,
Ray
