Beginning/Intermediate Improvisation Workshop
Taught by Rosy Simas Guthrie

Two Weeks: Jan. 17 & 24, 2004
Saturdays 12:00-6:00, 40 min break each class
Sliding Scale Fee $30-$50
(no one turned away for lack of funds)
Registration deposit of $10 due two weeks before the workshop begins (deposit applied to workshop fee).

Running Wolf Fitness Center
3123 East Lake Street
Minneapolis, MN
This class and space is wheelchair accessible.

In this workshop we will practice and explore:
Beginning a dance … Ending a dance …. Entering a dance. Following our impulses to move. Finding and dancing from our own innate movement.

We will create non-judgemental space for each other. In that safe environment we will identify and utilize our habits, style, tastes, and our idea of what "works" or "doesn't work" in the presentation of improvisation.

We will play together, sweat, have fun and ... find new inspiration for dancing and making dances.

Each class incorporates Body, Mind Centering, Yoga, Alignment technique, Contact Improvisation skill building and Improvisation score composition.

Some improvisation or dance experience helpful. Each participant is encouraged to spend some time exploring the concepts and exercises on their own, either at a improvisation jam or in rehearsals.

For rosy's bio see technique class announcement in this topic. For more information contact rosys@rosysimas.com or call 612.788.0047

Get out of your head and into your (energy) body!!
”Energy Acting” and “The Actor’s Breath”
New Approaches to Energy Work
For Actors and Healers
Instructed by David R. Lind, MA
What is an “energy body”? Think of it as the animating force behind the movements of your physical body. It’s what creates the “vibe” you get from other people (and that other people get from you).
In this class we will explore the “energy body” (sometimes referred to as the “life body”) and how focusing on our “energy body” can produce amazing physical and psychological changes.
Benefits to taking this class:
* Discover (or deepen your awareness of) your energy body using exercises derived from the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique and other energy based disciplines.
* More ease being in front of others
* Increased awareness of your body
* Increased awareness of your breath
Classes start March 15th and meet from 6:30 – 9:30 pm for 8 evenings at
Theophilus Divinity School, 3018 East Lake Street Minneapolis.

About the instructor: David R. Lind has been working with the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique for the last 6 years as an actor, teacher and director. He studied the technique at Rutgers University, the Michael Chekhov Acting Studio in NYC and has received on-going training through the Michael Chekhov Association. He is a member in good standing of the Michael Chekhov Association, an international organization that links the artistic vision Michael Chekhov created with the work of actors, teachers and directors of today.
David has taken the work he’s done with the Chekhov Technique and combined it with energy work and breath training to create what he refers to as “Energy Acting” and “The Actor’s Breath”
About the class: The class will be extremely experiential in nature. We will spend most of the time on our feet doing the work. This is not an intellectual class - so leave your “thinking head” at the door.
Cost: Tuition for this 24 hour series is $360.00

Digital Documentation
digital image, video, dvd, web

VC 9448 – Hemminger
10 Tuesdays
september 14 - november 16
6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
at MCAD (www.mcad.edu)

This course is designed to help artists in all areas better represent themselves and their work within the currency of digital formats. More and more communication today is being done through e-mail. As curators and art departments go online, it becomes increasingly important for artists to be technically proficient at creating and sending quality images and videos through e-mail and posting them on the Web. Students are expected to utilize their own artwork and can expect to acquire skills in shooting and manipulating digital still images, editing video, as well as creating their own Web site for self-promotion. Classroom time will be a mixture of discussions, guided tutorials on the computer, and working on assignments. Students will document their own work throughout the class and come away with at least one 35 mm slide that has been digitally manipulated, one DVD, and a functional Web site. Students should have basic computer skills including Internet and e-mail.

This course is being offered through the MCAD Continuing Studies Department. It will take place Tuesdays evenings 6:30-9:30 beginning September 14 and running through November 16. I hope to provide a valuable resource for the arts community on an ongoing basis. I am open to suggestions for teaching this material at other venues and/or in other formats such as workshops or seminars. Please let me know what works best for you.

Tuition:
Noncredit: $318
Noncredit Alumni/MIA Members: $287
Credit (1): $589

TINY IMPROV MASTER CLASS #1: USING YOUR "WHERE" TO BUILD YOUR "WHO"

Tiny Improv offers the following Master Class to adult improvisors of all skill levels:

USING YOUR "WHERE" TO BUILD YOUR "WHO"
Mikael Rudolph - Instructor
February 13, 3-6PM
$40/$30 with college id or hardship approval
ComedySportz Theater 3001 Hennepin Ave S
Email jbernard@comedysportztc.com to register!

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Explore refined definition of and interaction with invisible props and tools. If communication is 80% non-verbal, why do we look first to literal responses to what our partners feed us? Letting your hands and face alone do your talking? Breathe emotional life into the rest of your body and greatly broaden the range of your expression. Make visible the emotional effect your partners are having on you - be that inflating or deflating, being lifted or compressed, stunned or
electrified. If they press mute, are you still engaging as a performer?

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
A Seattle native, Mikael Rudolph holds a Bachelors in Dramatic Art degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, and has since intensively studied theatre and mime with Marcel Marceau, Gregg Goldston, Kari Margolis and Kurt Schweickhardt, among others. A veteran of two decades of touring the U.S. and eleven other countries, Mikael is producing "FoolFest2005" at Mound's Theatre in St. Paul in March and will return for a second year at The Ordway's Flint Hills International Children's Festival with his solo show: "Swim Home" this June.

Actors! Artists! Students of the Craft!

I am offering a Mask Theatre course. The course will include the pouring of a "life mask" and the creation of an original mask that fits the face perfectly.
After the mask is complete, participants will focus on improvisational exercises to create character. The class will culminate with an ensemble created original performance. Classes currently being offered at Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins, Escalate Dance and Theatre studio in Maple Grove, and are available closer to the Metro if interest warrants.
Stages Theatre Company Conservatory students are finishing up their original masks and will begin using them this next trimester while creating character and performance piece.
Please visit my mnartists.org site and reply with intent to participate, questions or suggestions.
