Job Title: Director, [email protected]; Full Time, Exempt

Job Description Summary:

The [email protected] Director will be a big picture thinker and an articulate communicator with a passion for connecting the aviation community with the arts community. He/she will have the innate ability to assess and respond to community interests, creating arts and cultural opportunities that enliven and enhance the individual and collective experience. The Director will provide leadership to the Arts and Culture Steering Committee, which is responsible for major decisions about the ongoing development of arts and culture programming at MSP International Airport. With guidance from the steering committee, the Director will develop and implement the artistic vision and focus of the MSP Arts and Culture Master Plan.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as staff lead to the Arts and Culture Steering Committee ensuring adherence to the MSP Arts and Culture Master Plan
Hires, supervises and evaluates arts department personnel, contractors and vendors
Develops, implements, and evaluates all program components as well as providing curatorial oversight to include design, preparation, installation and display
With Executive Director, develops and manages annual arts budget
Responsible for over sight of contract management and collection maintenance and security
Acts as a spokesperson for the program via speaking engagements, public and social appearances, and, as requested, at fundraising events and community events
Fosters the development of good relations with the airport community and other cultural organizations in order to create and sustain strong partnerships and working relationships
Reports to the AFMSP Executive Director and Board of Directors on a regular basis to provide activity updates
Establishes written procedures for operations of programs and arts staff
Works with AFMSP Volunteer Manager to create arts program volunteer duties
Works with AFMSP Marketing Director to promote [email protected] and support regional arts efforts
Works with other national and international airports to benchmark trends in airport art
Serve as a member of architectural design teams to incorporate art into airport construction projects
Serves as a member of the Airport Foundation MSP management team
All other duties as assigned

Required skills and abilities:

Strong leadership skills and ability to present projects logically and affectively in public forums
Knowledge and experience to integrate art related principles of design, harmony, color and conceptual space into all program components
Possess the patience and respect necessary to work within a larger governance structure
Skill in working with diverse groups and individuals and building sustainable partnerships
Proven artistic design and written and oral communication skills
Ability to be self-directed, make decisions and follow through with defined procedures
Must be organized and be able to meet goals and deadlines amidst a fast-paced environment
Ability to lift thirty pounds and walk distances of a mile

Required education and experience:

This position requires a minimum of a four year college degree in a related field
Familiarity with public art project and exhibition coordination including contracts, fabrication, construction and installation
A minimum of ten years experience in the arts community, program development, budgeting, staff and volunteer management and partnership development
A track record of at least five years of progressively greater responsibilities in multi-faceted program development
Art and culture policies including artist selection processes and public processes
Experience supervising staff and volunteers with a track record of building strong teams
Experience with various computer applications including database management, Excel, Outlook and desktop publishing
