The Future residency invites artists, weirdos, punks, analog photographers, witches, healers, tattooers, mediums, esoteric researchers, zinesters, astrologers, acupuncturists and beyond to engage with the space and community. This includes public, performance, and installation artists, those working in social practice and beyond.
Residencies last ten days, give or take, and residents are asked to culminate their stay in an exhibit, workshop, talk, presentation, seance, public art project, procession, publication, dinner or otherwise.
Residents have access to a small workspace room with a bed, a shared larger work/study/workshop space with a shared kitchen, and a shower, bicycle, and magical library. In the heart of the Witch District!
This next batch of residencies begin January and run through April, 2019. If selected, we will work on scheduling a 10-day period that would work for you.
There is no cost for the residency. If you're able to donate to the space, great! If not, no worries--ability to pay is not a factor in choosing residents.
The residency hosts one person at a time. We love animals, but aren't able to host any during the residency. The space is NOT scent free, as there are essential oils in use to make our in-house line.
WTF folks especially encouraged to apply.
There are three types of residencies offered: Witch Residency, Riso Residency + Weaver's Residency. All are based out of The Future. All submissions are through the form below. Please indicate what you're applying for in the application.
This is a residency for any and all witches, healers, magic workers, astrologers, artists, weirdos, tarot readers, herbalists, etc. to work on whatever you'd like during your time at the residency.
Unless indicated otherwise, we'll assume this is the residency you're applying for.
We are very excited to announce, that thanks to a grant from the Midway Arts Fund/Warhol Foundation, we're offering a new residency component! This residency is for feminist, queer, trans* and femme artists working in print. We're especially excited about working witches and artists working with magic.
We recently acquired a Riso GR3770 + 13 color print drums. Resident artists will have 24-hour access to it during a 10-day residency (shorter or longer is negotiable), and artists will produce a series of 11x17” Riso-printed broadsides or zines to be distributed to spaces in South Minneapolis, and if broadsides, posted on telephone poles and in the alleyways around the Corcoran, Powderhorn Park and Phillips neighborhoods. These prints will be for sale in The Future’s shop, as another way to support artists financially.
This is a paid residency--we can offer $500 for time and materials. If you're interested in doing this residency but aren't able to do it between January-April, 2019, we are able to schedule when works for you.
The Weaver's Guild of Minnesota offers one resident a free class and use of their equipment/work space to an artist working in weaving + fiber arts. Artists stay at The Future and have use of the Weaver's Guild equipment.
THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION TO THE RESIDENCY IS: SEPTEMBER 15
