20% Theatre Company seeks submissions for the world premiere production of The Naked I: 6.0 (official title TBD) to be performed at Mixed Blood Theatre, April 16-26, 2020.
Featuring a variety of performance types, The Naked I provides a platform to explore the experiences and talents of LGBTQIAP+ people, including topics such as gender identity/ies, relationships, bodies/body-image, transgender/gender non-conforming experiences, and all-around/self-defined queer-ness.
WHAT TO SUBMIT / WHAT WE SEEK:
-Personal monologues, stories, songs, essays, poems, theatrical scenes, short films, multimedia proposals, and/or proposals for movement/dance pieces.
-Pieces on any theme, in any genre, 5-8 minutes in length, max.
-Fresh, unique, original & personal language/narratives.
-Alternate forms of expression to communicate what spoken language cannot, and pieces that are collaborative or mix genres/mediums.
-Pieces that focus on more than one aspect of your identity or how two or more of your own identities interact.
-Pieces that highlight experiences that often go underrepresented in our community. This includes pieces by people of color, people with disabilities, trans-femme people, asexual people, polyamorous people, the list goes on...
WHAT NOT TO SUBMIT:
-Pieces that attempt to make broad claims about people who are not you, especially if those people are marginalized in some capacity. Please don't submit your interpretation of someone else's experience.
-Trans- or Queer-101 educational narratives.
-Submissions that will be longer than 8 minutes. (Writers: read your piece out loud slowly and time it, and then add 1-2 minutes for staging/theatrical pauses. If it is still 8 minutes or less, great! If not, start editing.)
-Pieces that are not personal.
-Pieces that are highly academic, or that are political in nature without a personal connection/story.
-Excerpts of something longer/larger.
WHO CAN SUBMIT:
Anyone, of any age, who identifies as LGBTQIAP+ or otherwise questioning, non-cisgender and/or non-heterosexual is welcome to submit regardless of proximity to Minneapolis.
