THE NAKED I: 6.0 CALL FOR DIRECTORS
20% Theatre Company is looking to hire a small team of collaborative directors to work with Artistic Producer Marcela Michelle to collectively direct and shape the world premiere of
The Naked I: 6.0, taking place at Mixed Blood Theatre, April 17-26, 2020.
Building community both locally and nationally, this production aims to highlight the voices and experiences of trans/queer/otherwise non-cisgender and/or non-heterosexual folks. Written, performed, and directed by LGBTQIA2S+
people, this is a production for us, by us, and about us.
All directors will be paid a small stipend.
The script for this new Naked I
is currently in development but will include at least 12 short pieces including poetry, theatrical scene, story, song, and movement/dance. Everyone is welcome to apply, regardless of theatre background or directing experience.
Some of the pieces will be performed by the writer (at the writer's request) - so we are specifically looking for directors who are flexible and willing to work with pre-cast pieces, in addition to pieces that will need casting.
Hired directors must be available in late January/early February for auditions (dates TBD). Directors may be working independently with pieces as well as collectively to shape the overall production. Rehearsal schedules will
be determined by the artists once all pieces are cast. Directors are welcome to participate in auditions as performers as well.
Attendance at technical/dress rehearsals 4/13-4/16 is required.
1) Your personal interest in directing for
The Naked I, including what you feel you can bring to and what you hope to gain from a collaborative directing role with this project;
2) Any prior experience with theatre, directing, other performing/performance arts, and/or your personal connection to the LGBTQIA2S+ community;
3) Any major conflicts you have from January through April;
4) If you have a theatrical/artistic resume please attach that, but no worries if you don't - 20% Theatre Company is committed to employing both professional and emerging artists.
Experience in theatre is not required to work with us. All we require is a belief in the work that we do.
