Pages from the Frozen Sea is a participatory book art project using ice to create the pages. Every- one is welcome to participate and all entries will be exhibited on ice during the Art Shanties Proj- ect 2018 On-Ice Program on the frozen surface of Lake Harriet, Minneapolis, Minnesota, January 20—February 11, 2018.* The images will be lami- nated and displayed in a weather proof binding for the duration of the event.
At the end of February, forty entries will be selected and published as an artists’ book that will be made available on Magcloud. The publication will also available as a down-loadable PDF.
We are looking for artwork that uses ice innovatively. Each page is a photo- graph of an artwork made with ice. Participants can document a work of art that utilizes ice in combination with found objects, drawing, poetry, paint, ink or any material of their choosing. Use a block of ice, any size, any shape (one you have found or created, outdoors or in your freezer) and shape it as a space for expression. Or use a found container and work with ice on the interior of it. Freeze art, poetry, sculpture, drawing, messages, seeds, natural materials and more within/around/on/under it. Note how and for how long the ice stays frozen; how it contains as well as how it melts. Note how the ice changes and its message transforms as warmth unlocks it. Photograph your project and post the photograph to the Pages from the Frozen Sea.
