Pivotal Movement Artist Applications

Pivotal Moment is a curated program created by The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts which allows dancers and choreographers to create their own four-session class based in a particular technique and/or rooted in investigating new choreographic material and ideas. Pivotal Moment classes are a welcoming environment for university students, recent graduates, and those new to the Twin Cities dance community (ages 18-26 who have pursued or are currently pursuing a BA or BFA in Dance) to explore material, experiment with teaching, and receive peer-to-peer feedback. Workshops are geared toward advanced students, ages 18-26.

“The Pivotal Moment program initiated by the Cowles Center's Education and Community Engagement Department came just at the time I needed it. It had been a year since I had graduated from a college dance program and I was missing moving amongst my peers, as well as feeling a little stagnant in my career as a professional dancer/choreographer. Pivotal Moment gave me the opportunity to test out teaching my movement in a safe space and take on new movement/techniques from my fellow dancers who were going through the same life questions as me. It was a place for us to openly discuss life as a young artist and imagine how to move past the roadblocks we were facing. After every session, I walked away with new information about myself as a dancer and how I want to impact the Twin Cities dance community. It was such a highlight of my summer and I look forward to continuing the connections I had made during these workshops. I am endlessly grateful to the Education Department and the Cowles Center as a whole for creating this program.”
