The University of Minnesota's Dance Program is currently accepting proposals for a new mural for the lobby of the Barbara Barker Center for Dance. This award-winning building is dedicated primarily to dance education and research at the University. It also serves the larger Twin Cities performing arts community through rentals. In this 20th anniversary year of the building, program leadership has identified the need for a rejuvenation of its space. The purpose of the new, two-dimensional mural is to infuse the space with a sense of joy, energize all who enter, evoke the idea of movement, and simply inspire. The selected artwork is the centerpiece of this project, which also includes new lobby furnishings and photography installations throughout the building.
Any artist is welcome to submit a proposal. Preference will be given to artists with a connection to Minnesota. The program warmly invites all artists, including underrepresented and marginalized voices to submit their work for consideration. Artists at any stage of their career are also encouraged to apply.
Artists are welcome to submit existing or previous artwork, so long as they have full rights to that work in order to grant the University permission to create and use a reproduction. Artists are not required to create a totally new piece for this project.
For more information and specifics see the RFP (link), which includes the online form for submitting your bid.
