Request For Proposals (RFP), 2019-2020 Season
Each year the Southern Theater is host to an outstanding season of programming. Dance, theater, music, live concert performances, film, spoken word, mixed media all highlight a celebration of local artistry under the historic arch.
The Southern Theater is now accepting submissions for the 2019-2020 season, September 2019 – August 2020. Some preseason slots are still available as well.
Options to Present at The Southern Theater:
- The Southern Theater will expand presenting options for artists beginning in 2019 and include a more traditional rental option.
- The former ARTShare program has been revised and given a new name: The Southern Partnership Program (SPP). SPP is a curated, shared-revenue program, where venue cost is determined from net ticket sales and revenue-generating activities verse upfront rental. Box office services are included and The Southern Theater will promote your production as part of our season promotions, mailings, newsletters and social media. More details can be found HERE, and link to the SPP application can be found HERE.
- Guest Presenters-more like a traditional rental model, you pay the cost for time in the venue. We provide box office services and promote your production in our Southern Theater promotions, mailings, newsletter and social media. Link to rental request form can be found HERE.
- Special Events-you can rent the space for your show, we link to your website and/or ticket sale page.
All presenters will be curated to provide a diversity of programming. Those interested should fill out an application based on the type of presenting option they are interested in (SPP, Guest Presenter, Special Event). The SPP process is anticipated to be highly competitive and will have a limited number of slots. All applicants can be considered for other programs if not selected for SPP.
*Most week-long rentals run from Tue-Sunday. Southern-based programing is slated for Monday evenings
NEW for the 2019-2020 Season—The AMPLIFY Series. AMPLIFY: to make larger, greater, stronger: to increase in strength. The Southern Theater is proud to be a recipient of the Minnesota State Arts Board, Arts Access Grant for 2019. As a result of this grant, The Southern will curate 3-4 different productions/artists in any genre, to give voice and a platform to underrepresented stories that need to be heard. This is a Cohort Series for artist and is a shared revenue presentation program. This pilot group will be given development support via mentors, meet together periodically to develop their projects, share resources and encouragement. Each of these productions will also have occasional access to space throughout their rehearsal process. Amplify artist will participate in a series of post show panel discussions on the topics being amplified and challenges in presenting the work of voices that don’t always have a platform. And for the first time, Amplify productions will include student performances.
