UNMC Davis Global Center
Nebraska 1% for Public Art Project
RFQ | deadline February 4, 2019
Budget $200,000 for six sites within the building

About the Davis Global Center

Serving as the headquarters for iEXCEL (the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning), the Davis Global Center (DGC) will distinguish Nebraska by creating a new transformative model for health care education, training and research. This model will be built around, and incorporate, a wide range of simulation technology so health care professionals can learn and become proficient in taking care of patients in safe, simulated settings. The building contains five levels, each working together to create safe, innovative and experiential training environments. The National Center for Health Security and Biopreparedness will occupy the ground level, and benefit from the simulation and visualization resources throughout the building. DGC serves as the catalyst for an integrated statewide, national and global simulation initiative that aims to improve human performance and effectiveness.

Artwork Site | Art Envisioned

The Committee is seeking artists who can design, in an engaging manner, innovative, thought-provoking projects that relate to the proposed space and can thematically align with the missions of UNMC and the DGC, as a premiere technological and simulation center for teaching health care professionals. The Committee seeks artwork with a more traditional approach of method and medium; the Committee will not accept any work that has video or technological elements.

There are six site possibilities. Artists can submit their concept for any or all Sites as desired. The Sites are located throughout the building and may or may not be related to each other. The artwork must fit within the predetermined space, as seen in the renderings below. The proposed artwork may be in concept stage or already completed. Artwork should be durable, low maintenance, and safe.

The Committee will use the following criteria: Letter of Interest, clarity of conceptual approach, originality, ability of artist to complete project based on prior work examples, and quality of work samples submitted.

Selection Process

The DGC Selection Committee, in consultation with the Nebraska Arts Council, has full oversight for the selection of an artist for this project. Any professional public artists or artist teams throughout the United State are eligible to submit an RFQ. The Committee will review RFQ submissions on SlideRoom. Six to ten finalists will present proposals in Omaha, NE, and will receive travel and proposal stipends. Proposals should include a concept, design, project calendar and budget.
