Seeking Guest Artists to share our Gallery Space on the 1st Floor of Northrup King Building
The Studios at Chautauqua Lane is currently seeking applicants to fill 3-month Guest Artist slots for the end of 2018 (Sept. 15 – Christmas, including Art Attack) and for 2019 (e.g., April – June, including Art-A-Whirl®). Display artists would have a minimum of one 15’ wall section with a modular hanging system, and may negotiate for additional table or panel space. Artists will rent their display space but do not pay any additional commission beyond that for sales made.
The Gallery is large, well lit, and located in the southwest corner of the 1st floor, visible down the hall when visitors first come in to the building. We are open almost all Saturday afternoons, 1st Thursdays, and for all special NKB events. Guest artists are expected to be available for the major art event weekends (Art Attack and Art-A-Whirl®) and are encouraged to be present for NKB nights and 1st Thursdays to speak with viewers about their work.
We are looking for talented emerging and accomplished professional artists doing work that fits with the current permanent artists. We are open to many types of media, and currently have night, landscape, and urban photography, fiber art, jewelry, mixed media, and acrylic paintings and pen and ink / graphite drawings in the studio. We have a shared aesthetic that leans heavily toward the North Shore, but also includes abstract paintings and drawings.
NKB as a building participates in the major Northeast district Open Studio Events, from Art-A-Whirl ® and Art Attack, to First Thursdays, Open Saturdays and Northrup King Nights. We have multiple larger galleries in the building that host special openings and juried shows as well, giving artists a ready-made marketplace for their finished art.
We plan to have quarterly guest artists throughout the year as part of our dual purpose of having fresh and interesting work for our returning customers as well as providing a venue for artists to try a presence in the Northeast’s biggest art studio space on a short term basis. We are a collegial group of dedicated and supportive creative makers, interested in sharing with equally compatible guests.
We can be reached most easily by email ([email protected]) or by dropping by during open studio hours on Saturday afternoons. Come in, meet us, and see the space if you are curious but not quite sure if this would be a great fit for all!
Heather Tinkham and Kim Buell founded the Studios at Chautauqua Lane in 2013; Andy Tinkham, Joan Kloiber, and Susan W. Carlson have since joined us as permanent members. Heather and Andy now run the space as co-owners, with the invaluable participation of all of our artists. You can get a sense of our backgrounds and work at the studio website www.chautauqualane.com. We actively seek artists from less traditional backgrounds and groups who are looking for a professional, dedicated, welcoming space to share their art and to learn about being in an artist-run gallery space.
