Studio Technician



Foci-MCGA, is currently seeking an experienced Studio Technician. This leadership position requires a high level of professionalism and behavior, problem solving, teamwork, and flexibility. The Studio Technicians report to the Director of Studio Operations and have oversight and responsibility for the general physical plant of all Foci studios and facilities. The ST should have a breadth of knowledge about all glassmaking processes and contemporary studio practice. The ST is required to promote the interests of Foci and present a positive and supportive work environment. The ST trains staff and all users of the studios and assists the Director of Studio Operations in the day to day operations and activities of all Foci studios. the ST will act as a liaison between customers and Foci MCGA. He/she is responsible for any and all equipment needs as it pertains to the daily programming and required to provide a clean and safe environment for customers. The ST will also perform as a glass worker representing Foci in many capacities such as open demonstrations, glass discoveries and other interactions with the public.

Education, teaching & studio practice:
• BFA or higher degree in glass or related field
• active CV as it relates to the responsibilities listed below
• demonstrated creative problem-solving skills
• knowledgeable of contemporary studio practices including multiple processes in glassmaking
• knowledgeable and capable of implementing contemporary safety procedures

Facility and equipment experience:
• At least two years of glass facility or equivalent facility management
• Expertise in building and maintaining glass equipment
• Understanding of process control and related equipment, including various controls for kilns and furnaces
• Experience in managing facilities
• Metal working including welding
• Capable of maintaining detailed logs, reports
• Extensive knowledge of material, processes – especially refractory materials and related construction
• Capable of managing and operating a mobile glass studio
• Electrical experience
• Experience with plumbing for gas and water

Additional requirements:
• teaching experience
• on call 24 hours
• work nights and weekends
• travel with mobile shop
