FELLOWSHIPS OPEN TO ARTISTS & WRITERS

VSC Fellowships
Twenty-five (25) VSC fellowships open to ALL artists and writers living and working anywhere in the world. All applicants will be automatically considered for one of these twenty-five unrestricted awards. These awards are for residencies scheduled between September 2019 and May 2020.

Every VSC residency opportunity includes private room, private studio space, all meals, and full access to our schedule of evening programs and events.

SPECIAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR VISUAL ARTISTS

Artist Opportunity Fellowships
Four (4) four-week fellowships for visual artists with demonstrable financial need.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for this award, applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need.

VSC/Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowships
Three (3) fellowships for visual artists of outstanding talent from the United States.

Wolf Kahn & Emily Mason Painting Fellowships
Three (3) four-week fellowships for painters of outstanding merit.

VSC/National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Artist Opportunity Fellowships
Two (2) four-week fellowships for visual artists with demonstrable financial need. Each award includes a $1,000 stipend.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for this award, applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need.

Barbara White Fellowships
Two (2) fellowships for visual artists. Each award includes a $300 stipend. Barbara White was a painter, VSC alum, and board chair (1996-1999).  These awards are in honor of her generous support and leadership in the 1990s, which was critical to building Vermont Studio Center.

Artist’s Resource Trust Fellowships
A special fellowship opportunity for New England visual artists over 35 who demonstrate financial need.

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for this award, applicants must currently reside in New England, Columbia County, New York, or northeastern Dutchess County, New York; be able to demonstrate financial need; be age 35 or older; and must not have received an A.R.T. award in the last 8 years.

Civil Society Institute Fellowship
One (1) fellowship for a U.S. artist of color with demonstrable financial need. Award includes a $500 travel stipend. The $25 application fee is waived for eligible applicants.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for this award, you must complete the cultural background portion of VSC’s application and include financial documentation demonstrating need.

Marshall Frankel Fellowship for Chicago Artists and SAIC Alums
One (1) fellowship sponsored by the Marshall Frankel Foundation. This award is open to all Chicago-area artists, as well as faculty and alums of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for this award, you must provide a current Chicagoland address and/or verification of your affiliation with SAIC.

Zeta Orionis Fellowship
One (1) fellowship for a woman 2D visual artist working in painting, who lives and works in the U.S. This award is based on merit.

 

SPECIAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR WRITERS

The James Merrill Poetry Fellowships
Three (3) fellowships for American poets with demonstrable financial need. Each award includes a $500 stipend.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for this award, applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need.

VSC/Cave Canem Fellowship
One (1) 4-week fellowship for a Cave Canem Fellow. Award includes a $1,000 stipend. The $25 application fee is waived for eligible applicants.

ELIGIBILITY:  Please indicate when you were a Cave Canem Fellow.

VSC/Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) Creative Writing Fellowship
One (1) 4-week residency open to Native writers who are alums of the MFA Creative Writing program at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) for a residency to be scheduled between October 2019 and August 2020. This award includes roundtrip travel to Vermont Studio Center and a $500 stipend.

ELIGIBILITY: Please indicate when you graduated from the MFA Creative Writing program at IAIA and list your tribal affiliation.

VSC/Kundiman Fellowship
One (1) 4-week fellowship for a Kundiman Fellow. Award includes a $1,000 stipend. The $25 application fee is waived for eligible applicants.

ELIGIBILITY:  Please indicate when you were a Kundiman Fellow.

The Cecile Shore Fellowship for Women Non-Fiction Writers
One (1) fellowship for women non-fiction writers age 40+ who write about women.

Henry David Thoreau Fellowship
One (1) fellowship for a poet whose creative work directly engages environmental issues and embodies the life, work, and spirit of Henry David Thoreau.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered, please include a brief statement (250 words or less) that describes how your poetry engages environmental issues and embodies the life, work, and spirit of Henry David Thoreau.
