D.J. Mendel has worked extensively with avant-garde theater legend, Richard Foreman, appearing in his Off-Broadway plays: The Universe, Permanent Brain Damage, Panic! and Planet Earth: Dreams.
He most recently starred in the world premiere of Elizabeth ou l’equity, at Theatre du Rond-Point in Paris.
Film credits include: Hal Hartley's Meanwhile, No Such Thing, Fay Grim, The Girl from Monday, and The Book of Life. Other starring film roles include: Richard Sylvarnes’ The Cloud of Unknowing, and the title role in Salvatore Interlandi’s critically acclaimed Charlie.
Directing credits include Cynthia Hopkins’ musical theater plays, This Clement World, The Truth: A Tragedy, Accidental Nostalgia, Must Don’t Whip ‘Um and The Success of Failure (or, The Failure of Success)—all of which were presented at St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York/The Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis well as throughout Europe. Recently he directed Daniel Bernard Roumain’s Symphony for the Dance Floor which premiered at BAM’s Next Wave Festival.
D.J. also works with singer Rosanne Cash, video designing her last three tours: Black Cadillac, The List and The River and The Thread.
