I love to paint! I love the rich butteryness of oil paints on linen, but equally love the wash effects of watercolor and the ability to ‘push the pigments’. I have gone back to painting also in pastel and love the crisp clean layering of that medium. Some say I am a natural teacher. It may be because painting is my passion, feeds my soul, and I love talking about the process almost as much as doing it. I am a classically trained artist through the Atelier LeSeuer and Minnesota River School of Fine Art, also have taken many classes and workshops from other notable artists.
My approach to art is to capture the essence of nature in the moment of its utmost beauty. “en plein air” painting offers me this possibility. My philosophy is best expressed by Gibraun: “Nature is far too great and subtle to be successfully imitated…The business of art is…to convey the soul of the tree rather than to produce a fruitful likeness…”
I am a member of Outdoor Painters of MN and Northstar Watermedia. I have exhibited in many shows; am an award-winning artist and have shown work all over the state. You can see my work at, MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids MN, Ripple River Gallery near Aitkin MN, the Wilcox Gallery in Excelsior MN, and my home studio. I have also taught at the MacRostie Center for the arts Grand Rapids Mn, and the Art Center in Rosebud MT.
