Eveline Tcacenco is a Moldovan-born artist currently pursuing a B.A. in Studio Art at Bethel University, St Paul, Minnesota. Her academic interests also include Philosophy and Psychology, which significantly inform her creative practice. Having grown up in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual context, she is interested in themes of cultural history, intergenerational narrative, and linguistic exchange. Her work in painting and mixed media collage has been exhibited in several shows around Minnesota, including the University of Minnesota, the Art-a-Whirl open studio tour, and several exhibits at Bethel University.
My work is an inquiry about language and its relationship to cultural identity, historical context , and intergenerational narratives. Having grown up in an environment where three languages were perpetually and arbitrarily swapped, juggled and mixed, I often find myself interpreting the world around me in a similar amalgam fashion. My work in mixed media collage incorporates fragments of architectural and cultural symbols, ambiguous figures of speech, and found objects in order to explore themes of translation, transition, and temporality.
